Penergetic Wildlife Deterant
In Saskatchewan there are literally 100"s of thousands of grain bags in farm fields. They are used to storage grain in between the time the grain is harvested and when it is sold. Farmers tend to store their grain on the farm in this manner, from weeks to many months, so they can sell their grain when they deem prices are most favourable.] The problem in particular, is deer damage the bags sitting out in the field (often by running their antler along the plastic grain bag to puncture/cut it open -- causing the grain to spill out and therefore permitting a 'feeding frenzy" by members of the herd causing the loss of grain to the farmer, through grain eaten, contaminated and exposure to the weather (wind, rain, snow).
If applying Penergetic b WV would act as a deterrent in preventing deer from damaging the grain bags it would be a great benefit to the farmer.
Regarding Penergetic b WV use around Grain Bags.
a) How long would you estimate the product effect lasts?
As the rain perception will be anyway low and the soil will be frozen, we expect a long lasting effect. I would say, one (1) application in October would be enough for the whole winter period. When the soil is frozen, the product will be a kind of ‘hold in place’. The cold weather conditions will be no problem for the product.
b) Saskatchewan is climatically in a semi-arid Continental climate -- which means warm summers and cold winters, with very limited precipitation. How effective do you suspect the product will be over the winter?
Winter conditions in Saskatchewan) are cold and what snow fall there is is typically very dry (and there is
only limited snowfall each year -- as climatically in a dry regime -- and (since the snow is dry and light) it is common for the persistent (Westerly) prevailing winds to blow what snow that does fall from the field).
Annual water deficiency is the most significant limiting factor to crop production in much of Saskatchewan (particularly in the south and west parts of the province) so annual snowfall is important for recharging
groundwater supplies, yet there is not much of it each year.
The principal questions are:
1. Will it work as a deterant?
Yes, it should work. I would also highly recommend to use the new combo.
When a bigger area is sprayed with the penergetic b WV, the protection will be better. In this case, with the additional 20m radius around the grain bag, the protection can be increased.
2. What would be a suitable perimeter width to use that would act as a deterrent?
A 20 meter perimeter radius should be sprayed around grain bags, as an example.
For the first tests I would go with the 400g/ac on a 180 foot (54m) radius around the grain bag.
3. What application rate should be used?
More is better, but, I wouldn’t go higher than 1kg/ha or 400g/acre
We currently specify a 400 gram/acre (or 1.0 kg/ha) application rate for perimeter application.
